Apps to find shared Wi-Fi and recover your network password.

Internet access is an essential part of our daily lives, and we often rely on Wi-Fi networks to stay connected. Two situations are common: forgetting your own network password and needing a connection when you're away from home. For both, there are legitimate apps and resources. What doesn't exist, and shouldn't be used, is an app to access someone else's network without the owner's permission. Below are options that operate legally.

1. WiFi Map

O WiFi Map It's a popular app that shows public Wi-Fi hotspots and networks from establishments whose passwords have been shared by users, such as cafes, hotels, and restaurants. You search for networks near your location and see the information left by the community. Because it relies on these contributions, the password isn't always up-to-date, and the app doesn't grant access to private networks that haven't been released by the owner.

Download: WiFi Map is available for free download on the App Store and Google Play Store, with extra features in the paid version.

2. Instabridge

O Instabridge It works similarly: it's a community where people register public and business Wi-Fi networks so that other users can connect. The app has an interactive map with the networks available in your area and can automatically connect to known networks. The same rule applies: only share networks that you have permission to share.

3. WiFi Finder

O WiFi Finder This is an app that helps you find public Wi-Fi networks in your area. It's not focused on passwords: the goal is to locate open connections in public places, such as cafes, restaurants, and airports. This can save you mobile data when you're away from home. Remember to avoid banking transactions on open networks.

Download: There are versions of WiFi Finder on the App Store and Google Play Store; check the developer and reviews before installing.

4. Recover your own network password

If you've forgotten your home Wi-Fi password, you don't need an app. On Android 10 or later, open the Wi-Fi settings, tap the network your phone is already connected to, and choose "Share": the system will display a QR code and, on many devices, the password. On an iPhone with iOS 16 or later, go to Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the "i" next to the network, and then tap "Password".

You can also find the password on your router's control panel or on the label attached to the bottom of the device, which shows the factory default password. If you changed the password and don't remember it, your service provider or the router's manual will explain how to restore the settings.

5. Your router's app

Many manufacturers and providers offer their own apps for managing your home network, where you can view and change your Wi-Fi password, check connected devices, and block anyone who shouldn't be using your internet. Search your phone's app store for the name of your router manufacturer or your service provider.

Remember: accessing a Wi-Fi network without the permission of the person paying for it is prohibited, and apps that promise to "crack" passwords of other people's networks are usually scams or hacking tools. Do not attempt to access networks without permission and respect the privacy of others.

If you want to find free Wi-Fi networks in your area or recover your own network password, the options above solve most cases. Download apps only from official stores and keep in mind that the availability of shared networks varies considerably from city to city.
